To claim Medicare rebates, you must provide us with a valid referral letter from your GP. The date shown on the referral must be current, and rebates cannot be back-dated for sessions that have been completed prior to the date of the referral.
Currently, the number of consultations you may be eligible for through Medicare is 10 individual sessions per calendar year. All sessions must all be covered by a valid referral from your GP. You will need to revisit your GP and have an up dated and eligible referral to access the full number of sessions.
We are able to see you without a GP referral although it’s sometimes a good idea to keep your GP in the loop if you have a significant issue. You can only claim a Medicare Rebate if you have a referral from your GP.
Referrals under the Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative are for individuals. If your relationship with a significant other is contributing to your distress, you can discuss with your psychologist whether it may be beneficial to sometimes involve your partner or family member in your sessions, however in sessions covered by a MHTP, the focus of treatment should always remain on the individual referred.
We can accept referrals addressed to other psychologists.
Please contact your health fund to confirm that your session will be covered and any conditions (such as having a GP referral). You cannot claim a Medicare rebate and PHI rebate on the same session.
